Thenewme's criticism, by mail:

Somewhere, of Sofia Coppola, released in January 2011:
After several failed attempts, I finally managed to go "Somewhere" by Sofia Coppola. First, let me say that I enjoyed the three previous films of this director. So I waited impatiently his new film and had decided to ignore the rather negative reviews (including one that appeared in "Inrocks).

So enjoy a vacation and my solitude ephemeral, I sat in a nearly empty room on the evening of Valentine's Day. The film starts slowly, goes just as slowly, and elsewhere, will never accelerate. That said, I'm not complaining, I was warned.

history, rather thin, is that of a man named Johnny Marco, a screen star, who spends time at the Chateau Marmont, a hotel renowned Los Angeles (especially renowned for being a den of celebs wanting hide from the common man). So our new friend Johnny has an exciting life: he gets up when he feels like it, once lifted a beer or smoking a cigarette, observes in his room binoculars make the "pole dance" (very long and uninteresting scenes, to So much so that even the Johnny falls asleep), is went to parties that take place in his room without his being aware (and without it he poses any problem), follow the instructions of his agent and finds himself at a press conference where he did nothing to
say ... In fact, he suffered his life he saw. Then one day his daughter arrived a few days to stay with him while his mother takes time for you-don't-know-what. It would also have given impetus to the life of our new friend, but actually not, he continues to drink and smoke. He takes his daughter to Milan for a prize (well, they could be anywhere as since they will not leave the hotel except for the stage a bit but pretty funny caricature of that delivery).

He created some links between the daughter and father but are still very superficial. In fact, at this stage, this story does not interest me too much and our friend Johnny took me out a little nose through the holes. The problem with this film is that its subject is not exciting and I felt no empathy or interest for this character. From a strictly cinematic point of view, I think the picture is less worked in previous movies and I even noticed the presence of a microphone at the beginning. Even the music (from Phoenix) is less present.

As actors, they are pretty good in their roles. Stephen Dorff who plays our friend Johnny looks away for the entire film and is very credible. The young Elle Fanning is quite charming and quite right even if it sometimes seems a little distant.

In summary, I do not recommend this film, I think he has no interest. I am not totally bored but I wondered throughout the projection what she was come. I have not found the answer.

His rating: 3 / 10

You can also find my four criticisms of February:
Pulp Fiction
The sandman
Spinal Tap
The coach

In February, Galinette winning Pulp Fiction, with its critical Kung Fu me laugh a lot. All entries were excellent, but I had to choose one.
